Oh! Why hello there, dear friend.

Tuesday night in yoga class, we discussed a particularly beautiful and relevant Rumi poem entitled The Guesthouse. I will make you read it before I continue:

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

How perfect and simple to explain human emotions and being present in the moment. How perfect to describe the whims of our emotions and value that each has in our lives.

I like the idea of the feelings each representing a person, a friend even. Each having its worth and purpose; as they enter our hearts and minds we welcome them with open arms and perhaps even a cup of tea.
