Coming Soon...

Labor Day is far superior to Memorial Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and any other Monday holidays on which the working class can kick back, pop open a beer, fire up the grill and chill.

Do you want to know why? Well, I'll tell you. It's because Labor Day is this Monday. That's why.

And, thank goodness, ladies of society will no longer be wearing white.

My First Earthquake

Today, at 2:02 pm at school we had a little earthquake. Apparently, it was a bigger earthquake in DC and Virginia, 5.9 to be exact. It was a little frightening, but also interesting and somewhat cool. Check that off my list of things to do!

OLD school

Crows feet and saddle bags aren't the only signs of aging.

You'll also know that you are old when your students begin to

1) Grow up, go to high school and show up on your husbands high school roster
2) Drop out of school and have babies
3) Think that you are lame
4) Not remember you

Shut up!

Does your husband make bourbon-pecan-bacon brownies for you?

Cuz mine does!

Watch out for the wolf in the kitchen!

Una Boda!

I've been invited to a wedding! And a baptism! And another baptism!

That's right. One of my student's parents are getting married and I've been invited. They will also be baptizing their youngest son and his cousin. Killing birds with stones is what I say! Get it all done in one swoop.

I'm curious what this event will be like. What kind of traditions and customs will they have? Music? Food?

Will this wedding/double baptism be akin to the open-bar-dance-party of a wedding concept that I am used to? Do I have to buy 3 presents? What should I wear?

Will there be little Mexican wedding cookies?

88 is the new 68

It's been so hot lately, that the new highs of 88 and the like feel like chilly Fall air.

I'm serious.

I mean it.

I'm cold.

New jackets anyone??

Yoga and Infinite Wellness

I am really beginning to believe that with a consistent yoga practice, wellness in unlimited! I guess I've always believed it, but now I am beginning to live it, rather. Understanding how to live it was one of my biggest struggles during college and the subsequent 3-4 years after. I mean, how can you begin to live yogically when drama majors and their cohorts are slippin' slidin' through your house at all hours of the night and scream-telling stories at each other to see who can be the loudest, funniest, and most "entertaining"? How can you understand true contentment when your idea of happiness is a great part in a play or the affirmation you receive when lights are shining on you and people are watching you in the round? How can you begin to understand health when your diet consists of gummy bears, ramen noodles and beer? How can anyone truly understand how to live a healthy and happy life until they have done it?

I thought about this the other day when I realized that I have been practicing yoga for over 10 years*! Discovering yoga happened to me at the same time that I was also trying to figure out so many things about myself, life and people. What I now know though, is that yoga was and has remained a constant for me. That is special and something that will hopefully fuel my journey for the rest of my life.
So, I'm working on it; I'm still learning, but it is a work in progress. How many people can say that?

*This was definitely an "Oh shit, I'm going to be 30 in 11 months" moment.

Rainy Day Yard Sale

I am currently sitting on my porch waiting for people to come and buy our old stuff. So, not only do I have to worry about people being grossed out by our stuff, but we have to worry about people being grossed out by our old wet stuff.

The yard sale culture is a strange one, though, so who knows what could happen?

It's also super fun to rapidly move everything back into the house when the rain starts, only to move it back out into the yard the the rain stops. (Can you hear the sarcasm in my voice?)

We decided, though, that if we could make 50$ we could officially declare this "worth it".

We now have 23$ and I think I just heard thunder.

New Hot?

Jay-Z and Kanye: A Collaboration?

Kanye, I'm still a little mad at you for being so pretentious and arrogant. And, Jay-Z, I'm still a little mad at you for fake retiring so many times. However, I know this will be "off the hook", to speak figuratively, so I want it.

Yes, please!

Hot Pink Cake Stand

Magnolia Bakery, I'm sorry, but you've got nothing on Wilmington NC's Hot Pink Cake Stand. Never has Santosha been personified (what? Hmmmm... Or cupcak-i-fied?) like it is in this perfect little cupcake shop.

With assortments if mini and full sized cupcakes in myriad of flavors, Hot Pink Cake Stand hits the hot pink spot!

Question

How long do you have to be in the car for it to count as a road trip?

Well, since you asked, I say if you have to stop to use the bathroom, then it's a roadtrip.

Beer, book and hammock

The name of my new business plan idea. Instead of bars, people will come to my place: an endless supply if private porches with hammocks. Beer and snacks will be served. Books encouraged. Dogs totally allowed. Talking prohibited.
