Precious Moments

Great Minds Think Alike...and so do theirs

It's a special thing when your best sister-friends can get along with your man and have a great conversation no problem,

It's even better when the sister-friend and the hubby can share a beer and laugh at how crazy they both are and make fun of the other sister-friend/wifey for being the polar opposite to their anxiety.

A Pet Peeve

If you're dirty, it means you need a bth

I don't understand why people think that they need to be flexible in order to practice yoga. A yoga practice is just that, practice. Just as you practice anything, you do it in order to get better at it. As a musician would practice his or her instrument, a yogi practices his or her yoga.
Additionally, with yoga the goal isn't to get better at doing certain postures but rather to get better at achieving flexibility, awareness, and stillness of the mind. So if you say "I don't do yoga because I'm not flexible", it means you need to do more yoga. The cause is the cure.

RIP One of the Greats

Another great artist passed today. Sadly, our world is a little less soulful than it was this morning. I really loved Prince. He was funky and badass. A legend.

Just like Bowie, he had a lot of different iterations. This is my favorite Prince (above) relaxed and au natural.
Which is your favorite Prince?

Whoever said that dogs can't smile?

This old girl had/has an ear infection and some kind of skin bacteria.

She smiles.

Smiling about the private time in the car with her mom or smiling at the fact that her parents spent a million dollars at the vet to set her straight?

Girls on the Run...

...So much fun!

This past weekend was the Girls on the Run 5k. 2500 girls from around the Triangle participated in the 5k event. Some of them, like my team, ran their first 5K ever!

Alton Brown

I had no idea who he was (until I googled him) and I'm sure many of the kids at Fayetteville Street didn't either, but Alton Brown came to our school!

This is him.

He did a cool science/culinary experiment that involved popcorn, exploding balloons and dried crickets.

Needless to say, the kids loved it and now we all know who Alton Brown is.

Popping popcorn with an extra hot lamp

Making culinary science jokes.
I didn't know it but he has his own show AND was on Iron Chef!

He's doing 2 shows at DPAC tonight and we got front row seats at Fayetteville Street Elementary.

Trying to emulate the chemical reaction that occurs when popcorn is popped. Inside the balloon is kale (for fiber), packing peanuts (for cellulose), and dried crickets (for protein).

This was right after he made that lady eat a dried cricket!

Heating up the "kernal"...this poor woman!

And...POP!

The best part was that Alton Brown stayed after the show and gave each child (over 300) and teacher a personalized autograph!

Thanks, Alton Brown!

This Year's Pollen Post

I should probably have a special blog just for my posts about pollen, because I legit have posted about pollen every season since I began blogging. In lieu of saying how much I hate pollen (which I do) and how much it is rocking me (which it is), I will just leave these right here as legit representations of how I feel:

Pretty Much...
For when your friends are enjoying the lovely weather and you just want to hide

For when you're tired of your need to avoid pollen dictating your daily routine

For when you try to explain what's going on with your sinues

For that first day in late May when you can actually go outside again

Spring Break in Asheville

Last weekend, Jason and I took a little trip to Asheville for Spring Break. I found a cute little "Treefort Cottage" on AirBnB for us to stay in, which boasted itself as a premier "glamping"* option.  We had a great little weekend hanging out, drinking beer, drinking coffee, hiking, catching up with friends, and rooting for the Heels from a chain sports bar with 12,000 TVs.

Yummy food and yummy beer from Wicked Weed

One of my favorite activities-fire and beer! I really love to zone out and stare at the fire...

Sierra Nevada Brewery, NC style! This place is a MUST!
Here we are with Derek and kids. This place is only 5 minutes from their house.

*A footnote on "glamping"- it's glamour + camping = glamping, and it's a great way to combine some of the great things about camping like fires and outside with some of the great things about staying in a hotel like a bed and warmth.  I'm still not sure though if it's just a way to get you to spend tons of money for a granny bed and a port-a-potty.  We did love our little tree house though...
