The gift that keeps on giving

Yesterday I taught a donation based community yoga class. This means that I didn't get paid to teach the class and anyone who attended paid on a donation basis only. I got to choose a local organization to which the proceeds would go. It was always between dogs or schools. I was heavily leaning towards dogs, but when I found out that local dog-focused non-profit organization  also used the funds to support small dogs, I decided to go with the schools.

We raised 170$ for 4J schools.

Damn, it feels good to give.

A Ballgown!

I really want a ball gown.

Along with an excuse to wear it.

I'm on to you

Today I got a weird call from a Durham phone number. The woman on the line told me she was given my name as a reference for "Laura Johnson". I promptly told her that I knew no Lauren Johnson. The women insisted that I was in fact listed as this person's reference on a job application.

WTF?

Identity Theft?
Info Fishing Scheme?
Idiot person with a fake resume?
Who knows?

Whatever it was, it was weird.

Number Muncher

1. If you went to elementary school in the 90s, you most definitely played Number Munchers on an old school Mac desktop during computer class. I secretly hated this game as it was a game that only boys were good at (and I was slightly lacking in my math skills). I preferred the more skewed for strategy and intelligence, Oregon Trail.

2. Despite my tumultuous relationship with mathematics, I have become a Number Muncher of sorts as of late. I decided to keep a little data on my yoga teaching.

Here's what I got so far:

Since I graduated I've taught 40 classes, 622 people, averaging 16 people per class.

Since I'm also enrolled in a Statistics course this term, I imagine I will learn other amazing ways to munch my yoga numbers. I will use this to my advantage as I mean, median, mode, standard deviate, and chi square all over this mug!

Year in Review Part 4

"What's the deal?", you ask. "It's January 2nd and you're still doing the year in review? Get to it!"

Well guys, for one I've been focusing on how awesome 2014 is and is going to be. And secondly, October through December were pretty great- so great that they warranted two photo grids!

In mid-September, I pursued a dream that I've had since 2010 of going to Bikram Yoga Teacher Training. It feels really amazing to accomplish something that you've dreamed of doing. I don't know that I've ever fully experienced that feeling before. Sure, I've accomplished many things in my life, but somehow this was different. Now, teaching Bikram yoga feels the same way.

So, yeah, teacher training was pretty great and returning to Oregon and starting to teach has been so amazing.

I've also returned to another old passion of mine, barista-ing. I've met a great crew of friends from working at this new coffee shop and the little extra income isn't so bad either. Teaching yoga and serving espresso may not sound like legit jobs to the average Joe, but for now it's pretty great. I'm looking forward to what 2014 has to offer.

Cheers, 2013! And cheers to 2014!
