For letting this guy set up shop for over 3 weeks,
For giving me throbbing headaches,
For making it hard to hear,
and finally for tricking me into thinking I was all better a week ago, and then out of nowhere inviting this guy and his plus one back into my face
At least somebody has been productive this week.
Love,
me

To be or not to be?
That is as in to be 45 degrees and raining or to be 35 degrees and sunny? Always choose 35 and sunny. Trust me.
In other great news, today was my second run on healed/healing broken toe. Hurts, but I ran!

Coming Back
After a very long hiatus and a very crazy summer, I am attempting to get my blog up and running again. I've actually had some inspirational thoughts and experiences that some might consider "blog-worthy", but feared the return to blogging because it had been so long (113 days to be precise). But enough with the fear, here I go!
There's no possible way to recount the events of the past three and a half months without writing a novella. So to spare you and myself, I will say this:
-Emotionally and spiritually trying
-Moving and more moving
-360s and 180s
-Leaving jobs, taking new jobs, leaving new jobs, finding other jobs, leaving those
-Reflections on self, love, trust, faith, ego, homes, friendship, and happiness
-Deep thought about true meaning of Santosha (contentment)
-Growth
“We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.” -Anais Nin

Acupuncture
So, for the past week I've been dealing with what I think is a yoga induced over-usage injury in my shoulder and neck. I finally decided enough was enough and got some acupuncture.
It was my first time, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. At first, it was much like getting a massage: the requisite questions about stress, tension storage areas, and nutrition; laying face down on a massage table in a cold room, someone gentle touching your trigger points, and then OUCH!
"Was that a needle that you just stuck into me"?
Oh, yeah...that's was acupuncture is.
I'll be honest with you, I thought I'd like the treatment much more than I did. I thought I would be OK with the fact that someone was inserting tiny needles into me, and at first I suppose I was. But as my body began to sweat profusely (I'm still not sure why this happened, I'm hypothesizing that my body must have gone into some kind of fight or flight mode) and more needles were going into me, some larger that their predecessors, I began to feel a low deep annoying type of pain, a scratching of nails on a chalkboard pain, or someone diddling a nerve in a busted tooth pain. It was weird. The doctor left the room, and I tried to concentrate on breathing and relaxing, but all I could think about was a myriad of needle injury possibilities. What if I took too deep of a breath then causing a needle to move, which then leaves me paralyzed or even dead? Sharp thing are kind of scary.
So, do I feel better? Well, much of the tension that was associated with the neck/shoulder injury is gone. So, I guess that's good. The main injury is still there, but methinks it just needs time to heal. Here's the weird thing: for the past couple of weeks, my allergies had been gone. I was going outside again, running, and feeling good. Then, all of a sudden after the acupuncture, they came back full force. I'm sneezing, snotting, and eye-watering all over the place all over again. Not cool. Did something new tree begin to pollinate or did the acupuncture trigger some strange reaction?
Acupuncture.
Would I go back? Never say never, but...
Would I try to find another option first? Probably
Would I rather get a nice deep massage? Definitely.
The best analogy I can think of is that it was like watching a scary movie for me. I just don't like scary movies. Some people do. Some people really like being scared. I hate being scared. Like...a lot.
And then again, this strange aversion to the whole experience makes me wonder if perhaps I do need indeed need acupuncture. Sometimes we find ways to obviate the things that we need.

November 2010...deceptively somber
November has come to be one of my favorite months over the past few years. November is the month of our wedding anniversary. November is the month of, not one, but several school holidays. And, November has Thanksgiving- one of the holidays which I find tolerable and actually somewhat enjoyable. November has come to be the new October! Better leaves, better weather!
But this year, something strange has happened. This November has been riddled with tragedies and family crisis. Without going into too much detail, sparing those involved and their loved ones, I will just say that this November I have heard about 4 deaths, 2 family crises, and one in between. What is going on??? Dealing with this much sadness is tiring and makes one wary of hearing any news at all for fear that it is another piece of sadness.
I am just having faith that good things are happening somewhere.

back karma
I don't know if it was me in yoga class the other night thinking "Wow, I've never been injured doing my practice!", or if it was me making fun of the man in the school safety video Slips, Trips and Falls shouting "Ow! I hurt my back!". But, I did. I hurt my back this morning, somehow, doing yoga. Ouch. I'm sorry school safety video and I'm sorry karmic gods who decide these things. Please make me better.
Now, how many Advil is too many?
